Sex trafficking is the use of force, fraud or coercion to compel another person to provide sex in exchange for money, clothing, shelter, drugs or something else of value. Most often, victims are lured into trafficking situations through complex, psychological manipulations.
Traffickers can be anyone - family members, romantic partners or people who are supposed to be providing help and support. If we want to end sex trafficking, it is not enough to simply arrest perpetrators. Human trafficking is the end result of other societal ills - poverty, abuse, trauma, racism, sexism, discrimination, to name but a few. You can help. The first step is learning more.
